Washington June 13 1841 On the death of President Harrison President Tyler to Mrs. Harrison Dear Madame - The acommpaning resolutions adopted by the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States will convey to you the deep sympathy felt by the Representatives of the States and of the people, in the sad bereavement which yourself and the country have [?] in the death of your illustrious husband. It may now justly be considered that the public archives constitute his enduring monument, on which are inscribed in characters not to be effac'd the proudest evidences of public gratitude for services rendered and public sorrow for his death. A great and united people shed their tears over the bier of a devoted patriot and public benefactor. In conveying to you, my dear Madame, the profound respect of the two Houses of Congress, for your person and character and their sincere condolance in the late afflicting dispensation of Providence, permit me to mingle my feelings with theirs and to tender you my sincere wishes for your health, happiness, and long life.
