Saratoga Sep. 26. 1851 My Dear Sir; Some time ago, being called to Richmond, I obtained from the Auditor's office a copy of the Muster Note of my company while attached to the second Elite Corps which I caused to be set up at the County Ct H. door, and I then noticed the fact to which you advert viz. that the roll did not account for much of the time my company was in service. Previous to the time of my transfer from the 52nd Regiment all of which was in service at the time, I had served with my company some month or six weeks at Williamsburg and Providence Forge. Where to find the pay roll for that portion of the time you will be better informed than myself. The pay roll you exhibit makes no mention of the name of my servant William Short, which you will find on the muster roll. He is still alive and is my House servant. Is he not fairly entitled to take benefit under the Act of Congress? If so I should be much pleased if you could procure for him the land. He is an honest and faithful servant. I have taken pleasure in referring some persons to you and shall continue to do so in future. With great respect I am Dr. Sir Yrs John Tyler There were names on my company list while serving at Wmsburg Va that are not on the roll [] sent me. Their [] at the time of my transfer. John K Martin I expect to reach home early in October. I write with a bad pen and in haste.
