Sherwood Forest March 13, 1852 My Dear Col: I have designing a trip to Richmond for many days past chiefly to obtain drafts for the interest falling due at East Hampton, but the children have each in turn, then altogether been so ill with ter rible colds as to render it next to impossi ble for me to leave them and now I am confined to the House by a similar attack with slight exposure would run into pneu monia. My trip is therefore delayd until next week and I have concluded to wait no longer but to send on a check on the Farmer's Bank of Virginia at Richmond for $57.50 and your Mothers check for $33.50 making together $91 the half yearly interest due to Hedges and Osborne, adding $1 to cover any discount. Mr. Gardiner left with Julia a blank check for her physicians while here and wanting a northern check I have paid Selden $26 and [] $7.50. Selden net is enclosed and [] paid for in corn. The check on the Farmer's Bank you can use for you own purposes without discount if you have a merchants bill to pay. As to Fowler he wants his money for some California expedition and has placed the bond in pledge with someone. Will you make enquiries into it and let me know all about it. If he wants his money he must have it. I write in haste and Julia having written [?] me from the necessity of adding more. Affly Yrs J. Tyler Col. D. L. Gardiner The children are now about & I am getting better. J. Tyler Col. David L. Gardiner No. 4 Union Square New York City
