My Dear Sir
[Gleaece?] had the honor to receive 
your letter conveying an invitation 
to me from Beglie Club No 1 of 
Lancaster County to address that 
Large & respectable body of 
Democratic [] at much [] or pray 
suit my convenience.
I am profoundly interested 
in the success of Democratic principles,
or of Pennsylvania [] in [] 
with those principles. I have 
chosen the old Keystone of my 
future home and have 
already paid [] sufficiently 
long to become [] with 
a all earnest regard take what 
I may [] [] eventually. And I must [strike] 
[][] & should be 
full in [] [] that the 
[-ssecity] & glory of the State 
are [intainably] associated with 
the reputation & success of 
Pennsylvania State public.

I accept the invitation [bequeathed?] with 
pleasure & will [inquire?] you 
in a few days at what time 
I may have then satisfaction to 
be in Lancaster.

gather thought with the coming years,

may all flow plentiful & read

the romantic period of the Virginia 
annals. But I can only glorify 
at certain leading facts, in order 
to sustain the thread of my reasoning 
that keeps for [?] & [?]

1st It appears that Virginia was 
the first Colonial Settlement and all N american 
2nd That the settlement was [affited] 
under a written charter
3d. That the colony was establishd [?]

I point of possibility to existing [institutions?] but 
is this conformity with them & therefore 
proceeded regularly from legitimate 
authority uncorrupted by civil [?] 
& unaffected by civil persecutions 
4t That no religious convictions or 
sanctanan differences when suggested 
tho enterprise originally or controlld 
it afterwards, a political conformity 
with the Church of England having 
only been required a this temporarily. 
     The evident deductive form these 
facts is that the tone of the New 
Community was from the first

earnest & masculine & 
the very
elements with which the seed of a 
future powerful Commonwealth should 
have been [?].
     It is quite certain that a written 
Constitution however vague and [geant?] 
shuld [?] be regarded as the corner 
stone of those free [?] inevitably 
defined somewhere later to make new 
if Mr. Bancroff asserts that the 
Charter did not concede to the 
[Emigrants?] "a single elected franchise
in a single rights of self-gov't." But 
[where] this explaining he overlooked 
the fact that they were accompanied

by a lade of Laws which secured all 
the neglects of private property, its full 
copy needs [intense] [burning] & its [testaments] 
destruction. The trial by jury. The 
right of petition, The rights of appeal 
from the [intermediate] officials to 
the [Monarch] & that the local 
administration was taken 
from the Body of the Emigrants 
themselves & although not chosen by 
those who hav no [primary?] intent
in the Selections  necessarily [?]
with there of feeling & very nearly
re acted condition. The New England
sympathies of the accepted [?]
under the circumstances 
may have [?] him [?] to 
use their [?] implying still 
more than it directly convey when 
drawing mentally a strong contract 
between the principles of the Plymouth 
& [?] settlements in favor of 
the farmers. But while I have no 
disposition to argue the this point it is 
exceedingly doubtful whether the divide 
of Churches & state disguised by an 
[?] consideration of the [?] & Democratic principles 
the distinguishing statement of the Puritan foundation 
is [?] of the eulogy he 
would thus [?] [?] it. At any 
rate the [?] of the [?]

Systems in the political development move 
[?] & soul habits of the Bible
may be need [] by mankind. 
In proof of the extent I have [read?] in [?] and to 
the value of a written constitution will 
be in [?] to the involvement character 
of the Colony without [] to [ha-] 
the [organized] Law by which it was 
ground thus it varies [prodifications?] 
it is sufficient to say that in the

was rapidly filling with population

induce the People of their State

the semi-abolition platform 
of New York & the New 
England States, with this 
intent to [communicate?] the 
very project of which he

address to you these grievances,
