Dear Sir:
I have just returned to the City of Philadelphia
from the Baltimore Convention where I had the honor of
representing the 1st Pennsylvania district. This
morning I find the enclosed advertisement in the Ledger
Newspaper (a paper of very large circulation). It is calculated
to do a great mischief if uncontradicted.
I preferred Mr. Buchanan for the Presidency, but I
am fully content with yourself, especially when I consider
the manner of your nomination.
You may perhaps know that the Catholic citizens
of this country entertain not kind feeling towards me,
and I should very glad to have it in my power
to contradict [autternatively] (if in accordance to the record)
this mischievous matter contained in the enclosed
advertisement.
Will you permit me to urge the speediest action
in reference to this subject?
