Sir: I was recently employed in my professional capacity as attorney at law as private counsel in a prosecution for assault & battery [?] by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania against two persons John & Nicholas Costello. The assault & battery was committed upon the person of Anna Maria Costello the wife of Cornelius Costello. When the case came in for trial, the Commonwealth vs. Nicholas & John Costello, the Commonwealth at my instance called the wife as a witness in the case - & the defendants called the husband. I understand that your legal attainments have [?] you to know that Mr. Cornelius Costello, the husband could not in such a case be a witness for the Defense & you once accused me on the [?] in a very public way of ignorance in this particular.
