Linden Va March 12th '06 My dear Uncle Lyon Many thanks for your prompt reply to my letter- I have "Letters and Lines of the Tylers" but foolishly never thought of looking in it. I also have a life of John Tyler which has a reference in it to the fact that the father of Pres. John Tyler was Capt. of State troops in Va. I do not know who wrote this life - It has not the name of the author - and the copy I passed was given to my grandfather Lyon "with the compliments of the author". I have recently returned from a visit to Alabama and I have been staying with various members of the family. I left all well, and some of the girls are very much interested in the D. A. R. and have already joined. Aunt [Taogil], Aunt Lizzie and Aunt Ma[u] are each represented in the society - by a daughter. I do not know whether I shall become a member or not, but I want to know how I stand with regard to Revolutionary ancestors. I shall be greatly obliged indeed if when you chance to be in Richmond and you have time, if you will find out about Robert Christian. With Love, Affectionately your niece M. L. Lyon Linden, Warren Co. Virginia March 7th '06 My dear Uncle Lyon: I want to ask a very great favour of you indeed: Will you be so good as to tell me whether I should be entitled to membership in the Daughters of the Revolution through any of my Tyler ancestors also through the Christians? The membership is only obtainable through direct descent from either private or officer string in the Revolutionary War. Now I am desirous of finding out how many of my direct ancestors served in the war (if there were any) also in what capacity - and where authentic records of their having served may be found. I feel that I am asking a great deal of you, but I know of no one else to whom I can apply for accurate information, for Aunt Semple is so very feeble as for it to be impossible for her to be taxed to this extent. With love to yourself and family Affectionately your niece M. L. Lyon
