Dear Sir

		I arriv’d here yesterday, by the lower & upper Sanduskey, in good health. We passed thro’ the Indian country, on horseback, from the former, a distance of about 80. miles. I staid at detroit 4. days, & feel much gratified that I have been able to extend my tour, into this portion of our western frontier, from a conviction that I have acquird knowledge respecting it, that will be useful to me. Of its importance, & particularly of the value of the lands, I was far from having formd a just idea. I shall hasten, [word struck out] to join you at Washington, as soon as possible, intending to pass by Chilicothe Pittsburg, & the new road, in my route.
