Dear Sir I find with much regret by your letter, that I had forgotten, that the appointment, was for 12. oclock, & not two as I had supposed. I was under the impression that you were to bring these gentlemen here, after I had receivd the Prussian minister. I really had no feeling in the affair, & having acceded to the arrangement which you proposed, intended most strictly to execute it, and am much mortified that I should innocently have wounded yours. I shall most willingly receive those gentlemen, at 11. or 12. tomorrow, if agreeable to you to present them. with sincere regard yours James Monroe Monday Novr 11. 1817
