Dear Sir I am inclined to think that you called, while the Prussian minister was here, or I was preparing, or rather dressing, to receive him. I infer this from my inquiry after his departure, when the porter, was absent, and an incompetent substitute in his place. If this was the fact, I shall regret it, as I really ^wish to com-ply with the arrangement which we made yesterday, in regard to them, I will receive you, with them, tomor[row] [paper torn] at 11, or this evening at 8. in an informal way, if preferrd. sincerely yours James Monroe Monday --
