Sir I have the honor to inform you that [I] as well as several of the French Emigrants Settled in the State of Alabama by a Law of Congress dated 2 March 1817, could not as yet be put in possession of my Land, there being a person Settled on it who refuses to give it up. any step taken for his removing to this present day has proved ineffectual; and the consequence of these delays will be the loss of a considerable number of vines which I expect daily from France. We hope to obtain of your Justice, Sir, that you will give the necessary orders to remove those intruders, that we may be enabled to fulfill the conditions imposed by our contract, & to reap the fruits of the great expenses we have been at to introduce the vine on a large scale I am Sir your most obedient servant P. P. Saint Guirons
