Abstract: Received Jefferson's letter of 27th expressing satisfaction with vibrating rod self had proposed as standard of measure; consents for Jefferson to propose it to Congress as standard measure for U.S.; relates comments of Mr. Patterson, professor of mathematics in University [at Philadelphia] that center of oscillation of rod is not exactly at two-thirds length of rod.
