dc.description.abstract Acknowledges receipt of the items he requested of Short the previous year, including George Washington's wine; advises Short on what he should and should not charge while on diplomatic missions; no new ambassadors will be appointed until Congress reconvenes; notes that Thomas Paine's pamphlet [The Rights of Man?] "has been published and read with general applause here"; informs Short that it was attacked, though, by those who wish a reconciliation with England, which is not the opinion of the general public; vanilla is scarce in Philadelphia. en_US
