Concerns a landing of a ship from New York; only a few letters come through the post office; another passenger from New York may have more letters with him; John Adams appointed minister to London; Col. William Stevens Smith appointed John Adams'secretary of legation; Rhode Island passed the Impost, allowed Congress to have power to regulate commerce for twenty-five years; New York placed duties and taxes on British imports; Jefferson has dinner plans with the Marquis and Marquise LaFayette, Mr. and Mrs. John Quincy Adams, and the Count and Countess Doradour; Col. David Humphreys is ill; Count de Doradour and John Quincy Adams will leave on the next ship; Charles Williamos will most likely not go. |
