dc.description.abstract Instructs Short to offer a job in the United States to the maitre d'Hotel of a Mde. de Corny if Jefferson's former servant will not make the trip; if the maitre d' will not accept the position, Jefferson commissions Short to choose someone else as he sees fit; requests a set of Giovanni Piranesi's drawings of the Pantheon in order to "render them useful in the public buildings now to be begun at Georgetown"; tells Short that the ambassadors to France and Holland have not been decided yet, but that the delay works to Short's advantage; mentions the unpopularity in the South of legislation authorizing an excise tax on liquor and a National Bank; says they might "produce a stand against the federal government"; offers investment advice to Short. en_US
