Abstract: Been informed that Burke communicated to Jefferson his intention to write a "History of Virginia"; procuring necessary materials has been an obstacle to self in same work; Mr. Madison of Williamsburg declined work 3 years ago; Mr. Burke has first volume ready; believes Burke's residence in this country too short; Burke requested him to publish his "History"; wishes Jefferson, Gov. Page and Mr. Madison would read and review it; expects to be paid, but Mr. Burke is at liberty to have it printed elsewhere; would like an answer as Mr. Burke and self wish to begin publication as soon as possible.
