Abstract: Acknowledges letter of Aug. 29th and comments on events they have both gone through since meeting; in France the horrors of Robespierre, the Directory, the aggressions of Bonaparte on human rights; in this country the hostility with England interrupted a peaceful course; is glad he has met Mr. Gallatin; is feeling the effects of age; mentions his grandchildren and family.
