Tories in New York have sold bills deriding Thomas Jefferson on streets; Lowther was arrested by Alderman Montania when he destroyed all bills sold by Bell; Bell sentenced to Bridewell; self freed; later sued, defended by states Attourney Richard Racker; fined $100; relates his military service in Jefferson Blues company and Democratic Blues company; lieutenant of former trained Buright instead of Lowther for commission; Burr and Lewis election occurred; after argument with the Buright colonel he left army and swore to do no private duty in state of New York; has a home in Delaware county, N.Y.; militia trying to fine him because he will not train; will support his country but must abide by his oath; wishes an answer. |
