dc.description.abstract Has heard Jefferson said her late husband's mission [to Algiers] failed not for lack of application but for lack of money; he had always served his country; in freighting business in last war he redeemed countrymen from captivity; under commission from Congress he fitted out a privateer and captured a British ship; brought warlike horses into Boston; refused opportunity of changing L25,000 continental money into British gold; lost his wealth; unfortunate mission to Algiers; failed seven times in trying to get a hearing before Congress; put his affairs into hands of Benjamin Huntington who proved treacherous; Mr. Lamb supposed a sum due him from Congress; she has lost papers; asks relief from Congress or President; previous letter to him lost. en_US
