Author: Jefferson, Thomas, 1743-1826
Abstract: Requests Short spend next summer with him; the only thing remaining to be done at the University of Virginia is to finish the rotunda; resists attempts by others to engage him in politics; comments on slavery, "a hideous blot"; optimistic that public opinion will lean toward emancipation; speculates that the removal of former slaves to the west would be the best solution rather than returning them to Africa.
