dc.description.abstract Encloses a syllabus "to place the character of Jesus in its true and high light"; explains his admiration for Jesus Christ, though he reads him "with a mixture of approbation and dissent"; the University of Virginia's buildings are nearing completion, but the school faces opposition from the College of William & Mary and religious leaders, especially the Presbyterians, whom he outlines his distaste for; expresses alarm over the sectional conflict arising over the issue of Missouri's statehood; predicts secession; health is not robust but not "immediately threatening." en_US
