Abstract: Concerns news from America; dwindling of opposition to the Constitution; federalists win many elections; New York elections; Virginia as antifederalist; George Nicholas to settle in Kentucky; American ships bring wheat and flour to France; letter from John Ledyard about to travel to Africa; letter from Admiral John Paul Jones in St. Petersburg by order of the Empress; armed struggle in Bretany; believes otherwise everything going well politically in France; King of England regaining reason; not much information on the Turks and the two empires [Austria and Russia] or on Russia and Poland; Sweden and Denmark prepare for war; revolution in Geneva; decides to keep the house in which he lives in Paris; departure in April may be delayed because Jefferson can only receive leave of absence from the newly elected Congress; proposed William Short as Charge des Affaires in Jefferson's absence; Short to show enclosed drawing to marble workers in Genoa and find out prices for the drawings to be made; Short to contact Antonio Capellano; suggests Short stay at the hotel du Cerf; Marquis de Lafayette went to Auvergne for the elections; letters to Mr. John Rutledge, Jr. enclosed; Short and Rutledge both read the letters.
