dc.description.note Custom bound with blank pages for St. George Tucker, whose autograph appears inside the front cover. This almanac is notable for containing highly detailed records of plantings made at his Williamsburg home, chiefly of fruit trees. Tucker obtained many of his starts from friends among the planter class, including his mentor, George Wythe, and William Byrd. The varieties of apples, pears, peaches, cherries and "plumb" trees are carefully noted, along with their compass positions in relation to the house. A recipe for currant wine takes up nearly one page, and on the final page a wager is recorded: "Norfolk, Fryday - Aug: 6. 790. Doctor Taylor lays me a Bet of a Further of 50: $ that Mr. Moses Myers, who left this Town yesterday forenoon, was at half after seven this Evening in Baltimore. Present [:] D. Campbell, B. Taylor, Geo. Kelly, J.M. Galt." en_US
