Enclosed is a folded sheet of paper inscribed: "W.W. to the poet: Ma'ams apricot/ So free from rot/ Altho it's hot/ Would make me trot [?]/ But for a ceremonious sot:/ Victim of leaden company/ Slave of the moment here am I./ Good th' excuse, tho weak I show it/ You know Sir that I am no poet." |
