Father is well and has done well in business, but misses the family circle. Father is purchasing land near Hawkinsville, [Ga.?] and sea island cotton. He is paid $130 a month for soldiering (he is a captain). He has been in 14 battles. He is indebted to Miss Mary Southall of Williamsburg, [Va.?], for the privilege of sending this letter to you.
