This interview was conducted as part of the College of William and Mary Oral History Project. Fred Frechette enrolled in William and Mary in 1942. After a year in the work-study program he was drafted into World War II but returned to campus in 1943. After graduating in 1946 he began working on the Alumni Gazette, but resigned when the alumni board voted to bar further articles on the football scandal of 1951. Fred became the Williamsburg reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch and was the president of the Richmond alumni chapter. From 1972 to 1975, he was a member of the Society of the Alumni Board of Directors. |
